The Future of the Open Air: Building a Sustainable Path for Community Equity
Our goal is clear: To ensure that the legendary terrain of our home becomes a space of belonging for those who keep this community running.
At Radical Recovery, we aren’t just looking at the next month; we are looking at the next decade of behavioral health in the Truckee-Tahoe region.
As a conscious, grassroots non-profit founded by licensed clinicians, we recognize that the "status quo" of recovery being isolated, indoor-focused, and often inaccessible is no longer enough. We are preparing for a future where the mountain is a permanent extension of the clinic.
A Vision for Consistent, Weekly Connection
As we look toward the 2026/2027 season, our primary objective is to move beyond "one-off" events. We are actively working to forge a cornerstone partnership with a local resort to establish consistent, weekly mountain outings.
This isn't just about an occasional day on the slopes. It is about creating a predictable, reliable rhythm of "New Action" for our community members. For those navigating the complexities of recovery, consistency is the bedrock of success. By offering weekly access, we provide a disciplined structure where movement and connection become a lifestyle, not a luxury.
Prioritizing the Overlooked and Underserved
The core of this future vision is a commitment to the neighbors who have been historically overlooked in the Tahoe outdoor industry. We are specifically designing this weekly program to create a bridge for our local Latinx and Indigenous populations.
These communities are the vital backbone of our region, yet they remain the most underserved when it comes to mountain equity. By partnering with a local resort, we can dismantle the financial and social barriers that prevent these neighbors from accessing the therapeutic benefits of the Sierra Nevada.
Collaboration Over Competition
We believe that the mental health crisis in our basin cannot be solved by one organization alone. It requires a concerted community effort. Our approach is defined by collaboration, not competition. We are inviting a local resort partner to join us in this clinician-led effort to:
Establish a Recurring Presence: Moving from "event-based" to "weekly-program" access.
Bridge the Equity Gap: Providing a direct, cost-free path for Latinx and Indigenous youth and adults to learn, ride, and heal.
Foster Authentic Recovery: Using the "Open Air" as a disciplined environment for peer support and clinical growth.
The Path Is Yours And Ours Together
This is the next evolution of Radical Recovery. We are moving with intention, preparing the groundwork for a season that prioritizes the human spirit over corporate metrics.
By integrating consistent mountain movement into the all-recovery journey, we are proving that the path to wellness isn't a straight line—it’s a skin track. And it’s a track that should be open to every member of our community, regardless of their background or bank account.
The future of Tahoe is inclusive and in the Open Air.
