“The Nest” Community Hub & All-Recovery Access Initiative

  • "TTCF recognizes the critical need for expanded behavioral health infrastructure—particularly for Medi-Cal members and vulnerable populations including youth, older adults, individuals with substance use disorders, and people experiencing homelessness."

    Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation

  • "The Town of Truckee sees firsthand the urgent need for increased access to behavioral health care in our rural region. Barriers such as provider shortages, the need to travel long distances to seek care in metropolitan areas, and limited resources can prevent residents from receiving timely and effective support."

    Truckee Mayor & Town Council

  • "Nevada County Behavioral Health appreciates the Crow’s Nest’s collaboration and commitment to expanding substance use and recovery services in our community. We believe this project could contribute positively to the region’s capacity to deliver a more comprehensive and accessible continuum of care."

    Nevada County Behavioral Health

  • "We understand that Crow’s Nest Ranch intends to serve a broad cross-section of individuals, including youth, adults, and families, and to offer culturally and linguistically appropriate services in both English and Spanish. The organization’s intent to collaborate with local partners and provide space for peer support and free community events is consistent with best practices for community integration and destigmatization."

Placer County Health and Human Services

  • "I believe these expanded services are vital for the health and well-being of our community. I fully support Crow’s Nest Ranch’s grant application and their efforts to bring more hope and healing to our community members in need."

Craig C. Weaver, Attorney at Law & Director at Fennemore Law

Radical Recovery (powered by Crow’s Nest Ranch) provides zero-cost peer support, holistic addiction recovery, and a local all-recovery gathering space for the Tahoe-Truckee region.

Located at "The Nest" (10775 Pioneer Trail, Truckee, CA), we break down financial and systemic barriers to behavioral health care with a dedicated commitment to ALL people of our community, including Indigenous people, People of Color (BIPOC), and our underinsured community members.

Our regional healthcare system directly recognizes this local crisis. In the Tahoe Forest Health System Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP 2023–2025), Behavioral Health and Substance Misuse are explicitly identified as top priority health needs across our region. Guided by their mission "to enhance the health of our communities through excellence and compassion in all we do," Tahoe Forest Health System calls for community-level inspiration, expertise, and advocacy to drive meaningful behavioral health change.

Currently, our region faces three critical structural gaps:

  • Lack of Specialized Physical Space: There is a severe shortage of non-clinical, alcohol-free and drug-free drop-in third spaces in Truckee where individuals seeking behavioral health and recovery support can gather safely without financial burden.

  • Financial & Deductible Barriers: We currently provide open office hours, peer mentorship and support, specialized outdoor excursions and meetups, and holistic and physical conditioning programs, which would normally carry high out-of-pocket costs while excluding Medi-Cal recipients, uninsured service workers, and court-involved individuals.

  • Need for Specialized, Hyper-Focused Care: Just as the High Fives Foundation revolutionized the focus on providing adaptive sports access for the physically disabled and how the Sierra Community House offers our community support through their Family Room, our area deserves that same degree of dedicated, specialized care for those struggling with substance misuse and dual-diagnosis mental health.

Our All-Recovery, Community Focused Meetings at "The Nest"

The Nest offers an inclusive space for zero-cost recovery meetings and seasonal outdoor active excursions, directly addressing the stigma and isolation of Lake Tahoe's 'paradise paradox.'

Filling A Deep Community Need Through Progress

Over the past year, local businesses, regional behavioral health directors, government officials, and local foundations rallied behind our mission. You can view our full collection of partner endorsements.

Increasing Connection and Reducing Isolation

Proof of Concept: Reconnected Foundation, Vail, Colorado

“Through one-on-one peer support, All Recovery meetings, and dozens of pro-social events each year, we’ve created consistent spaces for authentic human connection. Many participants share that our peer support meetings are the first places they’ve felt truly heard and understood. In a valley where the cost of living and seasonal work can leave people feeling disconnected, our free programming removes financial and social barriers, giving everyone—from young adults to parents and retirees—a chance to belong.” - Robert Shearon, Executive Director of Reconnected Foundation
